[Welcome again to Video Game Crafts ‘N Gear! This is a weekly feature wherein I shine the spotlight on three of the best custom-made, video game-inspired projects I’ve come across this week. Whatever the game and whether it’s art, crafts, toys, cosplay, animations or anything creative, if it’s awesome enough I’ll share with you wonderful readers!]
Who do you choose? I really don’t think I could decide between these adorable little amigurumi dolls by Ashley Muldoon (otherwise known as FullMetalAshley on Reddit). Although, if push really came to shove, I’d probably go for that Squirtle. Just saying.
Thankfully, unlike the heartless Professor Oak, Ashley won’t restrict you to just one. You can find all of these crocheted cuties on her Etsy store. Each one is four inches tall, and “handmade every time with lots of love”. She plans to create more starter Pokémon from other generations, starting with the Hoenn Pokémon to coincide with the incoming release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Video Game Art Book
Video game concept art books are awesome, but not a new concept by any stretch of the imagination. Every Day is Play is an art book that aims to achieve something more, however. The book isn’t restricted to official artworks; it covers “everything from fan art to game modifications”, from “the works of designers, musicians, artists, writers and developers”. It presents a world of creativity for so many, celebrating our favorite hobby through sheer artistic passion from many different people — and the results are simply beautiful.
Every Day is Play began as a Kickstarter project last year, which (thankfully) succeeded and is now available for purchase. You can grab the book as a regular hardcover, or the “console pack” edition which includes a shirt, poster and other goodies (which vary depending on if you opt for the “Standard” or “Legendary” version). You can head here to buy it now, and check out some of the gorgeous images below to see why you should be interested!
