The Wii U debuted in November 2012 with a strong line-up and good sales. Now it remains to be seen if they can keep that momentum going into 2013. With no Metroid, Zelda or Mario game announced, the Wii U is going into it’s first full year without it’s strongest franchises making an appearance. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t any quality games on the way and I’ve picked out the 3 that I am most eagerly awaiting.
1. Pikmin 3: This game was given a huge showcase by Nintendo at E3 and now it must live up to the hype. For those who are new to the game, Pikmin is a real time strategy game where the user controls 100 plant-like creatures and uses them to accomplish tasks. Pikmin 3 is a sequel to the first two games which originally appeared on the GameCube and it comes with a lot of hype, publicity and the hope that it will live up to the high standard created by the first two games in the series. Shigeru Miyamoto, the game designer of the first two Pikmin, returns for the third and claims that he’ll bring back the stress of the original game to the third one. This one should have gamers salivating for its arrival. It was initially slated to come out at launch but it’s been pushed to Spring 2013.
2. Rayman Legends: Rayman Origins was a critically acclaimed platformer released on the Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and other systems. Now the Wii U has the sequel to that game and can boast the HD graphics that made the first one such a joy to play on the PS3 as compared to the Wii. The first game had incredible imagery and was a fantastic platformer and it only figures to improve with its sequel. Legends promises innovative game play by using the GamePad to add more ways for the user to play the game. The hope is that this game will continue the great foundation created in the first game. Rayman Legends is scheduled for February 28th, 2013.
3. Game and Wario: Any fan of the WarioWare series should be extremely excited by this title. For those new to the WarioWare series, it’s a collection of frantic mini-games that come at the player quickly, testing his skill and speed all at once. This game promises to do the same and with the added bonus of using the GamePad as a controller and second screen, the possibilities are endless for this game. This game did not receive the same publicity as Pikmin 3, but it has its loyal followers and has the potential to be a party game that will be loved by all. Game and Wario is scheduled to be released before the end of March.
These are the 3 games I’m most interested to play in the new year, which games are you anxiously awaiting?
