Video Game Crafts ‘N Gear #44: Gaming Keyboard, Balloon Charizard, Squirrel Heroes

[Welcome again to Video Game Crafts 'N Gear! This is a weekly feature wherein I shine the spotlight on three of the best custom-made, video game-inspired projects I've come across this week. Whatever the game and whether it's art, crafts, toys, cosplay, animations or anything creative, if it's awesome enough I'll share with you wonderful readers!]

Gaming Keyboard

Because I’m a powerful psychic, I can tell that you likely have a keyboard in front of you right now. When you’ve stopped reeling from amazement, take a look down at it. It’s kind of dull, isn’t it? Just letters, numbers, symbols… Well, here’s something that might just brighten it up, if you’re a Mac user.

This is a hand-made Macbook keyboard decal on Etsy by killerduckdecals, with every key covered by a different video game character or object. The clever thing about this is that for each key, the letter is represented by something with the same first letter in its name. For example, “M” for Mario, “L” for Link, “S” for Samus, and so on. The colourful and cartoon-like style is also very eye-catching. They are shipped worldwide at the very reasonable price of £7.72.

Balloon Charizard

Looks like it’s not just the Hydro Pump attack Charizard should be concerned about, but Pin Missile too. Balloon Celebrations made this massive Charizard made entirely out of orange, red, blue and white balloons. And I do mean massive–it’s put next to a house just so you have an idea of the scale of this thing.

I can’t imagine how much time and effort this must have taken, nor the level of excitement of whoever it was made for. Imagine the size of it when it mega evolves. It could crush that building… if it wasn’t comprised entirely of helium.

Squirrel Heroes

Santiago-Perez created this series of digital paintings that reimagine a squirrel as a variety of different characters, including a number of iconic gaming heroes. Check out Squirrel Link, Squirrel Ezio, Squirrel Pikachu and Squirrel Kratos. Not only has he added adorable yet awesome outfits to the rodent, but added special effects too. Pikachu is unleashing electricity while Ezio is surrounded by the world of the Animus.

It doesn’t stop at these, however. There are a ton more images of the little guy dressed as Marvel heroes, DC heroes and movie characters. You can see them all in one place right here, and you should also check out Santiago’s gallery.

To check out last week’s featured Crafts ‘N Gear, here’s the link for #43: Meat Characters, Pikachu Banana Tattoo, Minecraft Jack O’ Lanterns. You can find all our back episodes here.

If you’ve seen or made anything cool that you’d like to see featured, leave us a comment or send me a tweet! You just might see your name credited next week.
