Halo developer Bungie has finally unveiled its new project, a massive new console shooter called Destiny. Destiny is set in a persistent world, much like MMORPG’s, and allows you to create and customize your own player character and explore our very own galaxy, collecting loot, completing quests and working together to save it. Bungie says you can still play the game alone without the help of others, but it willstill require you to be online at all times. Unlike traditional MMO’s however, Destiny won’t require a monthly fee.
Destiny is designed to always match you with players close to you, but unlike traditional MMO’s won’t feature hub towns filled with thousands of them. “[The] amount of players you see is design controlled,” Bungie COO Pete Parsons said, adding it’s “not about stuffing as many people in there as possible.” Destiny is currently only announced for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but there’s always the possibility of it coming to other platforms in the future as well. Bungie has always showcased a mobile app for the game that will let you see player statistics, give you background on their adventures and notify you of any invites and events that might be occurring. Destiny is already available for pre-order at DestinyTheGame.com, though no set release date has been given yet. There you will also find more official information about the game.
