Good news for Xbox Live Gold Subscribers out there, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising: Case Zero are free for the rest of August.
In Microsoft’s attempt to further add value and justify the $60 price tag of Xbox Live Gold, the company has begun an initiative of making games from their library free of charge for a limited time. We saw Fable 3 get the treament not too long ago, and gamers also some some free Assassins Creed passed their way. This month, Gold users who have had the misfortune of not having played the Dead Rising series consistently are now benefiting from the delay.
The full game of Dead Rising 2 is available for download through the Xbox Live dashboard, and online at Xbox.com The open world sandbox zombie game was the last for Capcom great Keiji Inafune (creator of Megaman) to work on, and it definitely shows. With a fun story, tons of improvements over the first Rising (multiple saves), and even a co-op mode, DR2 is definitely a game worth playing through at least one.
Case Zero is also avalailble for free via download, and marks the mini DLC prologue, that introduces players to Chuck before he heads to Fortune City, setting the stage for DR2. While much shorter, Case Zero touches on a little bit of back story, warms you up for DR2, and even carries some of your progress into DR2, making you better prepared for the main game.
One word of advice, however. The carried over progress from Case Zero to DR2 is *very* limited. For example, if for some reason, you decided to go out of your way, spend hours trying to accrue millions of dollars in Case Zero, to circumvent the time restrictions of making money in Dead rising 2 for instance, the game will not let you.
