Bad news for players that are going to buy the latest entry of the Battelfield franchise for current generation consoles: DICE has confirmed that the system’s new Battlemap feature will not be compatible with the Xbox 360 and Ps3 versions of the game. Battlelog for Battlefield 4 will, however, be compatible with all the other versions of the game.
The Battlemap feature is a new second-screen feature that lets players keep track of the action via a full radar-enabled overhead map that can be viewed on a smart device like a table, phone, or a PC.
Battlelog assistant producer Jesper Nielsen has explained the reason behind this:
“Battlelog is powered by the web and has a lot of implications. It was faster to do things this way and not build stuff using native code.”
Battlelog will also be fully web based and allow DICE to implement updates easily, without having to do patches manually. Players will definitely benefit from the quick updates, once Battlefield 4 is officially released.
Battlefield 4 will be released on October 29th in North America and on November 1st in Europe. The game is coming for Ps3, Xbox 360 and Pc as well as on next generation consoles. The Ps4 and Xbox One versions of the game have yet to be dated so stay tuned for updates.
