Remember how people were saying that SmartGlass was gonna be Surface and Windows 8 exclusive for 6 months? Well that didn’t work out, since the freaking thing is now available on the Android market for everyone to download.
The app description states:
Use Xbox SmartGlass to enhance your entertainment on Xbox 360.
Xbox SmartGlass lets your phone work with your Xbox 360 console to bring rich, interactive experiences and unique content about what you’re watching or playing, right to the device that’s already in your hand. Interact with your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports, and games, and bring remote control to a whole new level.
No word on an iOS version yet, but considering how long it took for it to pop up on Android, I’ll take a rough stab and say you’ll be able to get it on your iPhone and iPad in the next few days.
Xbox SmartGlass allows you to use your smartphone or tablet as a second, smart screen for your Xbox 360 console. It works with games, movies, television, music and just about everything else. It’s applications are virtually limitless – you can write stuff with it, faster than a controller, you can get detailed information on the movie or tv show you’re watching, it can serve as a convenient map in-game. Some of the Xbox 360 software that is already integrated with the SmartGlass includes HBO Go, where it will show you “rich, immersive details on selections from over 1,400 of your favorite HBO® shows,” Forza Horizon where you can “explore and interact with the complete map of the Horizon game world through intuitive gestures on your tablet or mobile device while seamlessly playing the game on your TV screen,” and many more. You can see a full list of the featured SmartGlass activities here.
