The monumental success and staying power of the Halo franchise is demonstrated yet again, with the reveal from Microsoft that the total number of Halo copies sold in the world is now over 50 million. The figure was 46 million before the launch of Halo 4, meaning that since its release on November 6, the fourth numbered installment in the series has sold 4 million. The game also generated $220 million in its first day, compared to $500 million in the same time for the multiplatform behemoth, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
This of course means one thing – more Halo. Development director Frank O’Connor has recently confirmed that the next Halo game(most likely Halo 5) is already in pre-production even before the release of Halo 4. Talking to CVG, he said “I can’t say more than that, but work on the game started actually before we launched Halo 4 and continues apace as we cycle staff through the team’s vacation breaks. We’re excited about the next game.”
