Halo 4 is the biggest Xbox 360 exclusive this holiday season and perhaps the biggest game release of the year. Microsoft Game Studios head Phil Spencer has said that it is the most expensive game in the company’s history.
Halo is the “most important entertainment product in the company,” said Spencer. “Absolutely. Nothing’s even close,” he added when asked if Halo 4 is the most expensive game Microsoft has ever developed.
When Bungie left Microsoft in 2007, the company still partnered with Microsoft until the release of Halo: Reach in 2010. Halo 4 marks the first time another developer is working on an original Halo first person shooter. Halo Franchise Development Director Frank O’Connor and other Bungie employees left the company to continue working on the franchise at 343 Industries.
