Welcome to our new regular feature, Video Game Crafts and Gear! There’s tons of passionate gamers out there, and decidedly not enough gaming swag in the world. That’s why these talented creators make their own, and we round up whatever awesome custom-made art, sculptures, toys, clothing, or random items we happen to find. Of course, we’ll include whatever official merchandise we think is cool, too!
If this week you were planning to roll a Katamari through Portals while carrying Heart Pieces to stay safe, you’ve come to the right place. Remember, you can click on each of the images to view them full size. Let’s get started!
Portal 2 Miniature Replica Portal Gun
ThinkGeek have been known to offer vast amounts of cool Portal merchandise before, and yet have managed to have outdone themselves this time with the Portal 2 Miniature Replica Portal Gun. Check out the video below!
The gun has coloured LEDs that alternate between blue and orange, a working trigger, posable claws and in-game sound effects. At 12″ long and approximately 5″ tall, you can relive the life of Chell while proudly displaying the model on your desk – without turrets, lasers or evil supercomputers on your back.
Piece of Heart Necklace
As the legendary old man told the world, “it’s dangerous to alone”. So before you head off to adventure unequipped, take a look at this Piece of Heart necklace by Zibbet user Milkool.
The neatest thing about this is how the artist kept the sharp edges from the block, pixelated graphics of the N64 graphics – clearly taking inspiration from Ocarina of Time. In-keeping with the tradition of Zelda games, Milkool is also offering a Heart Container for free when you buy four Heart Pieces, as though you’ve upgraded your health meter. Now that’s cool.
Magnetic Katamari Toy
Na-naaa, na na na na na na na, na-na na na na na na, na-naaa… na-na na na-na na na…
Sorry about that.
Ever wished you could roll a Katamari ball like the Prince? Etsy user EccentricArtificer has made that dream very possible. While you probably couldn’t create a planet-sized boulder to maniacally absorb all life-forms and land on Earth, this toy is actually magnetic, so that anything metallic will stick right onto it like in the games.
This is so genius and yet I’m surprised it hasn’t been done before. The 4-inch sphere has 24 in-built ferromagnets, allowing it to attract anything in its path while it continues to roll. The King would surely approve of this Katamari!
Have something you think should be in the next Video Game Crafts and Gear? Comment below or send me a tweet – we wanna know about it! If we like it, you may just see your name credited.
