Starcraft 2 expansion coming on March 2013

It was already announced last week but now it’s finally official: Starcraft 2 newest expansion, Heart of the Swarm, will be available on March 12 2013, basically confirming the given beginning of next year release window.

The “Heart of the Swarm” expansion will feature a new campaign revolving around Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of the Blades, leading the swarm against Arcuturus Mengsk: it will be available for all Windows versions and Mac OS; players who want to buy the expansion digitally will be able to do so from the Starcraft 2 official website. Among gameplay additions are new units and a bigger emphasis on multiplayer modes.
A collector’s edition will also be available featuring some exclusive bonuses like a behind the scenes extra disc, a soundtrack cd, a 144 pages art book and a mouse pad depicting the Terran Dominion. A digital deluxe edition has also been announced today featuring:

  • StarCraft II Torrasque: Crush the enemies of the Swarm with the indomitable Torrasque, a fearsome new look for your zerg Ultralisks.
  • StarCraft II Portraits and Decals: New Swarm-infested portraits and decals help you customize the look of your online profile and in-game army.
  • World of Warcraft In-Game Pet: The Baneling companion pet is bursting with enthusiasm and ready to explode onto the Pet Battles scene.
  • Diablo III Blade Wings and Banner Sigil: Grow zerg-like wings in honor of the Queen of Blades, and unfurl an exclusive banner sigil to mark your allegiance to the Swarm in Sanctuary.

Choose carefully how you want to enter the world of Starcraft 2 again: the fate of an entire race will rest on your shoulders.
