Twisted Metal is making its way to the PlayStation Network as a downloadable title on October 30, the PlayStation Blog announced in a recent podcast. The game will also see a drop in price, being available on Sony’s digital service for 40 dollars.
Twisted Metal was released in February this year for the PlayStation 3. Unfortunately the game never made it big, in neither sales or scores. It got “generally favorable reviews” according to metacritic(76), which isn’t bad but isn’t something to behold either. In terms of how it did commercially, creative director David Jaffe said it was “not a dud, not a hit.” The father of Twisted Metal and God of War also left Eat Sleep Play, the studio responsible for the game in March, shortly after the game shipped.
If you’re not familiar with the game or the series, Twisted Metal is a vehicle combat game. This one focuses heavily on multiplayer, featuring various online game modes with up to 4 player split-screen and 16-players online. The game’s modes include deathmatch, team deathmatch, endurance, race, hunted, team hunted, last man standing, team last man standing, nuke mode and finally story mode. The story focuses on one of three player-selected characters(Sweet Tooth, Mr. Grimm, or Dollface) as they fight through Calypso’s tournament. The game has 17 vehicles, 8 battlegrounds, 11 weapons with 6 sidearms, and 8 different car abilities.
