The Resistance series started in 2006 with Fall of Man, one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 3. It follows Sergeant Nathan Hale in an alternative look at the events of 1951 where a mysterious alien race known as Chimera invades Great Britain. In addition to the singleplayer campaign the game also included multiplayer functionality that was hosted on dedicated servers, allowing up to 40 people online.
The second title in the series came out in 2008, going against Epic’s Gears of War 2. The game sees the return of protagonist Nathan Hale as he travels to the United States, battling the Chimera while infected with their very own virus. New weapons include the “Marksman” and a mini gun called the “HVAP (High Velocity Armor Piercing) Wraith.” In addition to the competitive online modes such as Skirmish where up to 60 players are supported, the game also features a separate co-op campaign with up to 8 players taking on the role of “Spectre Team.” This co-op mode is set in 1952-53 during a gap in the story.
The third and final Resistance game came out in September last year. It includes a new protagonist and several gameplay features from the original game such as the weapon wheel and health bar. It also supports stereoscopic 3D and PlayStation Move control.
