PlayStation Slim Vs. PlayStation Superslim

I’m sure you have heard of the new PlayStation Superslim model, and if not, here it is.

Sleek, right? Maybe you don’t think so, but wait until you see the disk space.

So do you want to run out and buy a new PlayStation Superslim to replace your perfectly good, otherwise working PS3? Probably not. Are you in the market for a new PlayStation for whatever reason? Then you really need to check this out.

What does the Superslim get you, anyways?

  • 50% smaller and lighter than original PS3.
  • 25% smaller and lighter than current Slim.
  • 250 and 500 GB options for Japan and the US
  • 12 (what?) and 500 GB options for Australia, Europe, and New Zealand

The strange thing about these memory options, aside from the fact that Europe, Australia, and New Zealand have 12 GB available, is that the prices are lower than the ones for the older Slim models that have less memory.

The Superslim comes in two bundles in the states. One is the 250 GB Superslim that comes with Uncharted 3 Game of the Year Edition with all DLC and $30 worth of Dust 514 content for only $270. The other is the 500 GB option with Assassin’s creed 3 for $300. If you were planning on getting Assassin’s Creed 3 in the first place, then that system is really only about $240. For 500 GB Superslim. That’s so crazy.

If you’re not interested in any of the games included with the bundles, is offering the 12GB model and 500GB model as just the console. Keep in mind these are the Australian slims and superslims. They also have more PS3’s, both slim and superslim, available in their PS3 section.

So let’s do a comparison, shall we? We won’t even include the games that come in the Superslim bundles.

  • 250GB Superslim- $270 Vs. 160GB Slim- $250
  • 500GB Superslim- $300 Vs. 250GB Slim- $300

It’s clear to see the better deal here. The same price for twice as much memory, not to mention a free game? The only question is, what are retailers going to do? With the introduction of the superslim is there any way they’re going to be able to sell their memory inferior Slim consoles for more than the price of the Superslims? I doubt it, it will all come down to bundles and discounts around the holiday season.

Good news for anyone in the market for a new PS3. You’re going to have a lot of great options around the holiday season. Not only will you have the options of the fantastically priced and bundled Superslims, you’re also going to get places like Gamestop and Walmart stuffing free games and controllers into their own Slim bundles just to try and clear them out.
