Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has just announced that the God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta will be available to PlayStation Plus members January 8. Privileged players will get a taste of the game’s Favor of the Gods mode, as well as a team variant of it. Favor of the Gods centers around players earning points to get ahead by executing brutal and stylish kills, opening chests, using the Spear of Olympus against one another and capturing domination points. The beta will also let beginners play the multiplayer’s tutorial mode, which lets newbies experiment with Zeus and Ares as their mentors.
God of War: Ascension is the seventh installment of the iconic God of War series. Developers said that the game will have a revamped combat and weapon system. It will also the first game in the God of War series to have an online multiplayer, which has been subject to much discussion the last few months. Non-PlayStation Plus members who don’t plan to take part in the challenge can expect the full game to hit shelves March 16.
