When a developer has made something big, they know they’re going to get rest any time soon. But the good people at 343 Industries never thought they weren’t going to get any rest at all after developing the latest Halo game: Microsoft confirmed today that the series as a whole has sold over 50 million units since its beginning in 2001 and as a celebration they have also announced that a new Halo game is in the early stages of development.
Obviously the great sales performance of Halo 4 is responsible in reaching such a milestone: the series had sold around 46 million units right before the release of Halo 4. The 313 Industries’ game has earned by itself over 220 million dollars during its first day.
And from a great game comes a great responsibility towards fans: 313 Industries are already at work on the next Halo game, currently prototyping idea, software and art. This news practically confirms Microsoft intentions in releasing a second trilogy for the series. Currently no more information can be given, but the future of the Halo series will probably be a good and profilic one.
As for the extra content for Halo 4, 343 Industries still haven’t decided if they’re going to make a Second Season for the Halo 4 Spartan Ops mode, waiting to see how it performs as a whole after it’s been fully released.
Halo 4 was released on November 6 exclusively on Xbox 360 to critical and commercial success.
