Digital distribution done right? We still don’t know if this is gonna be an isolated episode or more developers will follow with similiar decisions, fact is that all Tecmo Koei Wii U titles will be available on the console’s eShop digital store on launch day, with lower prices than full boxed retail versions!
Digital distribution really hasn’t brought any real advantage in the current console generation: players who expected lower prices have been costantly disappointed with prices almost identical if not even a little bit higher than retail and it seems like the situation won’t change soon since new releases are still sold for full price on consoles’ digital stores.
The three Wii U launch Tecmo-Koei titles are Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, hack and slash game combining the world of two other Koei games, Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors; Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII, latest entry of the long running Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategic franchise and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, an upgrade of Ninja Gaiden 3 released this year with more playable characters, play modes and content.
As already stated, the three games will be available digitally for a lower price: Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper will be available for 7140 yen at retail, 6300 digitally; Romance of the Three Kingdoms for 9240 at retail, 8000 digitally; Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for 71400 yen at retail, 6300 digitally.
We can only hope that they’ll try to get prices down even in the West: to know if this will happen we’ll just have to wait for a few days as Nintendo Wii U will hit North America on November 18 and Europe on November 30.
