Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 sells 1 million copies at Gamestop on launch day

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 now has the honor of being the biggest Gamestop launch ever, with 1 million copies moved worldwide. Gamestop president Tony Bartel revealed this information during an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek. “‘Black Ops II’ is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time,” Tony Bartel, president of the Grapevine, Texas-based chain, said yesterday in an e-mail. “GameStop sold more than 1 million units worldwide during our midnight launch period.” Businessweek also says that “based on retailer checks, “Black Ops II” probably will sell between 6.5 million and 7.2 million units in the U.S. and U.K. in its first 24 hours — matching or exceeding last year’s version by as much as 10 percent — estimates Michael Olson, an analyst with Piper Jaffray Cos. in Minneapolis.” They also report that Gamestop stock rose by 1% to $23.48. “The shares have declined 2.7 percent this year”

Amazon also tweeted something similar, saying that “Black Ops II broke records and is now our most pre-ordered game ever!” Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sold 6.5 on launch day in the US and UK last year, and earned $775 million dollars in five days.
