It’s almost been 10 years since the Playstation 2 release of GTA: Vice City and the good people at Rockstar Games want to celebrate the game’s tenth anniversary in the best way possible. Rockstar games has announced today that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will receive a port for both iOS and Android devices, promising high resolution graphics and several enhancements.
It’s not the first time a 3D GTA game is ported on mobile devices: in December 2011 Grand Theft Auto 3 was released on iOS and Android devices. The port was very well done too: the game is essentially the same as the pc and console versions with enhanced textures and models and obviously touch screen controls. A really nice feauture was the ability to use third party custom created content created for the PC version on the portable version.
This announcement doesn’t come as a surprise to many gamers: when asked about the possibilty of ports of GTA; Vice City and GTA: San Andreas, Rockstar answered by saying that it was very possibile, despite some technical challenges to overcome.
The celebrations of the 10th anniversary don’t end with the Vice City port: Rockstar games plans to release some never before seen artwork and a limited run of collectibles that will either be available for purchase or given through online giveaways.
The GTA: Vice City port will launch this fall. More details are to be expected very soon
