Making money in Assassins creed 3 through missions, treasure and of course selling things is absolutely key to allowing Connor to accumulate funds to make those big item purchases. Beyond the standard making money methods such as looting, contracts, attacking convoys etc.. there is this feature called Merchant multipliers. What is a merchant multiplier? its a feature based on seasonal conditions that represent the good old rule of supply and demand. This means that at certain times of the season merchants will pay you more for certain goods then others and this is only done only through convoys.
So when your trading with merchants your primary goal is to always trade with the merchants that will give you the best merchant multipliers. Some merchants will always try and apply lower multipliers to certain categories of goods, you should avoid selling those types of goods to them (the devalued items categories). Remember the more convoys you have going on and the more capacity upgrades you unlock the more profitable you will be. Bottom line is trading through convoys to merchants in different locations for the goods you have in stock will drastically increase your profitability.
As you can see from the table below some merchants will pay up to 6 times the regular rates and on average 4 times the normal trading rate! Here are a list of Trade Items best per sequence:
