Duke Nukem Forever dev drops PR firm following threats to games journalists

Duke Nukem Forever dev 2K Games has severed their long-time working relationship with PR firm The Redner Group after the firm threatened to blacklist journalists who gave the game negative scores.

Clearly unimpressed with some of the comments about Duke’s latest outing, The Redner founder Jim Redner posted on Twitter earlier today, “Too many went too far with their reviews…we are reviewing who gets games next time and who doesn’t based on today’s venom.”

Redner later added: “Bad scores are fine. Venom filled reviews…that’s completely different,” before deleting both posts and apologising publically, saying he “acted out of pure emotion” and that he wasn’t speaking for 2K.

The developer has now confirmed via its own Twitter feed that the PR firm’s services will no longer be required, saying: “2K Games does not endorse or condone the comments made by TheRednerGroup and confirm they no longer represent our products.

We maintain a mutually respectful relationship with the press and will continue to do so. We don’t condone @TheRednerGroup’s actions at all.”
