Hell Froze Over: Duke Nukem Forever is Out Now!

Hell Froze Over: Duke Nukem Forever is Out Now!

I know, it’s a pretty strange headline to read. Imagine how weird it feels to be writing it.

Right now, I’m back home in Peru, where the game will unlock on Steam in approximately 1 hour. The game is already available in New Zealand and Australia, while tomorrow will be the Japanese and European release of the game. The Duke will not arrive in US stores until June 14th. Is the US able to wait for 5 more days?

From what I’ve seen from the Demo (Steam pre-orders do not give you First Access Club passes), the game is coming along pretty nicely. It looks entertaining, action-packed, and full of good old fashion Duke humor. Black, dirty, and immature humor.

Duke Nukem Forever will also feature four different multiplayer modes. You have your default deathmach and team deathmatch modes (named Duke Match and Team Duke Match respectively); Hail to the King, in which teamed players secure and protect control point throughout the 10 available maps in the multiplayer mode and, finally, the oh so controversial Capture the Babe mode. Players will capture the opposite team’s flag babe, and take them back to their base by taking them over your shoulder. If the babe starts obstructing your eyesight, you can always give ‘em a good spank *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*

Development for Duke Nukem Forever lasted for 14 years. Development was started in 1997 by 3D Realms until 2009, alongside Triptych Games, when Gearbox Software took the reins and announced the development at PAX East 2010, with a release date set to May 2011, but then pushed to June 2011. Piranha Games handled the console ports of the game and also the multiplayer component.

Well, the game is already pre-loaded on my computer and, apparently, I can start playing. If you excuse me, I’ll be kicking ass and chewing bubble gum.

Fun Fact: The Duke Nukem Forever game manual is 37 pages long. Eleven of those pages are for Credits only.
