A few years ago we could only dream of having a notebook that performed even half as well as our finely tuned gaming rigs. Now, with the development of more affordable and mainstream miniaturized hardware pieces, we can enjoy all the noob stomping of a desktop in the convenience of a laptop. While there are a few great gaming notebooks on the market, the best bang for your buck is definitely the Qosmio X500 by Toshiba.

Why the Qosmio X500 you ask? Well, let’s take a look at what this baby packs underneath the cool black and red exterior.

TheToshiba Qosmio X500 features a powerful Intel® Core™ i7-740QM processor (1.73GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Enhanced Intel® SpeedStep® technology. As most of us know, the i7 is one of the best processing units on the market, and is usually only seen in nicer desktops. With the power to compete with even some of the nicer AMD Phenom II’s, the i7- 740QM is one of your best choices for a mobile build.

One of the most important aspects of any gaming rig is the GPU or graphics processing unit. The Qosmio X500 uses the newer nVidia GeForce GTS 360M series video card, which is among the best for mobile chipset graphics controllers. Compared to the previous 260M, the 360 has a high clock speed and supports GDDR5. Coupled with high performance DDR3 memory, this GPU can be an absolute beast in a notebook.

For a notebook, the Toshiba Qosmio X500 features a pretty hefty 4-8 GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 memory. This combined with the i7 and GeForce GTS 360M makes for an awesome gaming experience, and with that much DDR3 memory, the days of single tasking on your laptop are over.

Hard Drive:

We are guessing you may need a little bit of space to install all those games you are going to be playing. Lucky for you, the Qosmio X500 has a total of 1TB (2 x 500GB 5400 RPM) Serial-ATA hard disk space. While the 5400 RPM may be a bit low compared to other hard disks on the market, 1TB of storage space is nonetheless very impressive for a mobile setup.

Optical Devices:

Want to watch some movies in HD? No problem! The X500 comes fully equipped with a DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) drive with Blu-ray Disc™ ROM. This means you can enjoy all of your Blu-ray movies while on the go, and your PS3 will start to collect dust in the corner.

What would a gaming rig be without an awesome way to see all your games and movies in HD? The Toshiba Qosmio X500 is well equipped with a 18.4″ FHD TFT with TruBrite™ which allows for up to 1080p native resolution. This means you won’t even notice the difference between your notebook and your desktop, which is definitely a good thing.

Sound Devices:

Built in Conexant CX20583-10Z Software Sound, High Definition Audio Link, harmon/kardon speakers. What more is there to say? Enjoy your fully gaming and entertainment experience with a sound system that actually delivers. Pure awesomeness.

Other Features:

Not only does the Qosmio X500 have it where it counts, it also features a number of awesome peripherals to give you the best experience you can get out of a notebook. Some of these include:

Toshiba Face Recognition: No more unwanted noobs trying out your gaming notebook! This allows you to have an extra piece of security to keep your mind at ease, plus it’s pretty sweet.

Hard Drive Impact Sensor: Actually a nice feature to have on a computer that you may be dropping, knocking off tables, and generally abusing in many ways. This ensures that you won’t lose all your data if you are on a particularly bumpy part of the road.

“Sleep and Charge” USB Ports: Annoyed at having to keep your computer running full steam in order to charge your smartphone? This isn’t a problem with the X500, which features USB ports that allow you to charge external devices without fully booting up your notebook.

All in all, the Toshiba Qosmio X500 is an impressive piece of hardware, and will pretty much last you through any entertainment experience you have in mind. With a powerful i7 processor and GeForce 360M GPU, it will be a while before you replace this notebook, which is always a good thing. Not to mention this notebook looks pretty awesome as well! Well, what are you waiting for? Start gaming with the Toshiba Qosmio X500.

  1. Huh, really? That shows how much I keep up with computer hardware, all I know is that we’re more or less at the cap of what is physically possible in terms of power per square inch. Well at least I’ll be more informed when I get myself another computer.

  2. This laptop is making me drool, what a great review of this machine. I’ve only even seen one of these once in real life, its a dreamers laptop, but if you want the best, Toshiba beats the rest.
