Nintendo have stated the limited edition 3 game pack staring everyones favourite sphere morphing FPS will no longer be shipped to retailers.
When the company was presented with questions regarding the availability of the game by Coffee with Games, the Big N said:
“Unfortunately, Metroid Prime Trilogy is no longer being shipped. Having said that, you may be able to find what you seek through the secondhand video game market.”
When asked for reasons regarding the stop in production, Nintendo provided a vague response and again advertised the availability of pre-owned copies:
“When first introduced, it was announced that there would be limited availability. However, a reason for this was not announced. That being said, you may still be able to locate a copy via stores that specialize in previously played or used games.”
When Nintendo America’s vice president of sales and marketing, Cammie Dunaway, originally announced the game, he said:
“Metroid Prime Trilogy puts the best first-person adventures all in one place, with a host of new additions that make these three timeless titles more engaging than ever. A great deal of care and detail has gone into Metroid Prime Trilogy, providing longtime fans with new ways to experience the games they love.”
Now you may have noticed something slightly amiss with that statement. No points for the realisation that there was absolutely no indication of limited quantities of the title being produced.
A far more plausible reason for the abrupt halt in production may be the fact that, despite critical praise across the board, the game only managed to sell half a million copies.
It’s a shame that well designed games are simply ignored by the bulk of Nintendo’s current buyers. In the mean time, the horrendous, Carnival “waggle a white brick”series reaps sales off the chart. It’s a sad day for gaming.
