EA Sport recently announced that NBA Jam will in fact be remade and reworked into a Wii title. Many fans have been begging for NBA Jam to be remade for a long time and it seems as if it’s finally paying off. I attended a LAN party at my college recently and witnessed a very high-energy NBA Jam tournament that put the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to shame. We know that NBA Jam fans are still walking amongst us and the franchise is still very alive.
Mark Turmell, the series creator, says that since the arcade version was released in 1993, the franchise has made over $1 billion, which is a staggering number. It seems as if they thought it would be best to see what else they could squeeze out of it.
“NBA Jam is one of the most recognizable franchises in videogame history,” said Peter Moore, President of EA Sports. “Diehard fans of the original game have been asking for a remake for more than a decade. We’re very excited to give them their wish this year with the return of this iconic franchise.”
We can only hope that the new version of NBA Jam will live up to the standards it set with its original title. We are said to be expecting more depth, and new gameplay modes this time around, but I think that many of us would be happy with an original version of the game.
Tell us what you think. Are you excited about a new NBA Jam? Do you think it will be a dud?
