Here is a video review of the surprisingly good Yakuza 3. The final score ended up being a 4 out of 5 stars. Definitely worth your time if you are looking for a good alternative to the God of War 3 craze going on right now. Make sure you watch the review first though. There are a couple of things that could make some of you very impatient with the game. Enjoy!

About the Author

I've been in the gaming industry for only about five years, but I have had a passion for gaming for as long as I can remember. I've spent my time in the industry developing games and I now find myself enthralled with the journalism side. So now that I am delving into blogging about games, I can finally voice my insider knowledge and opinions with the masses. I hope you enjoy my writing and I look forward to your comments! :-)
I had high hopes for this game even though the previous ones apparently sucked ass.
I never played the first two. I hear good things though. The third one really impressed me…but I can see how it would upset those expecting a brawler. It really is a very unique experience.
bleh, it’s like the sims but linear and shitty. The continuity makes no sense. There’s no sense of urgency. And plot holes run rampant. Why do hardly any at all of these yakuza not carry guns? Why do I have to find this fucking dog that stumbled into my yard then ran off? Why does the game go from a cutscene, to text dialog, back to cutscene? Why didn’t they redo the voices and lip animation for it’s American release like Final Fantasy did? Why am I helping out people whom I have zero interest in, because the main character is a ‘good guy’? That’s bullshit and completely unrealistic. And why’d they set this game to spend so much time in an ophanage your running? That’s a horric idea, my God. It’s retarded. I like games that take chances, but that doesn’t mean I wanna spend 5+ hours painting my house in a game, or finding lost dogs. The best thing about the game is the fighting and minigames, and even those are mediocre.
“To each their own” I suppose. I personally enjoyed the game. It really is more about experiencing a chapter in this man’s life than it is about a specific genre. And since it does not stick to a genre (like a brawler) it will not appeal to a lot of gamers.
The first Yakuza actually did have english voices. Seeing English voices coming out of these VERY Japanese characters and setting just looked awkward. Hence why they stopped doing that after the first one.
I really wanted to like it, but there were just far too many needless annoyances. There’s absolutely no reason I had to look for a lost dog, or help find saki, or find out who ‘stole’ my child’s allowance. The game’s called Yakuza for Christ’s sake. The fighting was pretty cool, I really enjoyed the leveling up and the outrageous fighting style. But I couldn’t tolerate running around town for an hour or so just to fight a couple guys. The story was admittedly interesting as well, unfortunately it’s cutscenes are LONG.
I can respect someone not liking the game. For a game named “Yakuza” it is a little light on the violent gameplay. I touched on it lightly in the review, but I really should have spent more time warning people about how deceptive the game is.
