Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has certainly been busy making announcements lately. Shortly after revealing Nintendo’s plans for a new DS, Iwata went on to mention the Wii Zelda game that no one really knows anything about.
According to Iwata, the title is currently set for a 2010 release date. Nintendo’s president didn’t say when exactly, but he did mention that the game would be out by the end of 2010. This is certainly good news for Zelda fanatics. The last Legend of Zelda title was released last month on the DS, and the handheld adventure was well-received.
Even though that game was good, though—and it definitely was a good game—fans have yet to see a home console installment of The Legend of Zelda since 2006’s Twilight Princess. And I think I speak for every Zelda nut when I say I want to see a new Zelda game for the Wii ASAP.
In other news, Iwata also mentioned the Wii Vitality Sensor. Nintendo’s president stated that the pulse-sensing peripheral would be released sometime around July. Before the Vitality Sensor’s launch, though, Nintendo fans will be treated to a press conference regarding Nintendo’s newest accessory.
News of the Vitality Sensor certainly takes a backseat to the Zelda 2010 announcement, as fans are eagerly awaiting that next Zelda game. Still, between the new DS, Zelda release date, and Vitality Sensor announcement, Iwata has definitely dropped a lot of news for the Nintendo loyal. What are your thoughts? Are you excited about the new Zelda game for the Wii? What do you hope to see in the upcoming title? Are you looking forward to the Vitality Sensor?

There’s been rumors of a new Zelda foating round for some time. It’s good to get some confirmation. I’d like to see something a little different this time around. Even though some people cringed at the graphical style of Wind Waker, I applauded Nintendo for trying to take the series in a new direction. As great as Twilight Princess was, it basically just rode the coattails of Ocarina, as did Majora’s Mask. If I’m being nitpicky, Link should be a lefty…he has been since the 80’s.
I admit I was initially turned off by WW’s cel-shaded style, but as the game’s release date grew near, it became something that really interested me, and I was able to appreciate the graphical style as a new direction for the series. I consider WW just as good as OoT. And I know that’s a bold statement, but I sincerely enjoyed it as much as that game.
Regarding the upcoming game, I hope to see some innovation in the puzzles. And a left-handed Link would be nice to see again just for the sake of tradition.
I hope they rebuild the formula from the ground up, I am expecting something fresh and new. That said, this is great news no doubt I hope we catch slightly more than a glimpse of this title at E3, and its name hopefully..
