New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Star Coin Locations World 6

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Star Coin Locations World 6

We are nearing the end of our New Super Mario Bros. Wii Star Coin Location journey, but there is still plenty of ground to cover.  World 6 will prove to have some more difficult coins to get, but most of the coins are fairly easy to get.  You will begin to notice the levels getting a little more difficult now than they were in the previous five levels and it will continue to get tougher from here on out, so be prepared.  So with all that information out there, let’s get started.

Note:  I will be referring to some special moves of Mario in this guide, refer to this guide if you run across such a move.

Note:  If you are just joining in then you can find all of the strategy guides for previous levels down at the bottom of the page.

World 6

Level 6-1

Star Coin #1

Your best bet for this level is to get a Propeller Head because it will make getting the Star Coins in this level much easier.  The first Star Coin is located towards the beginning of the level and it’s very hard for you to miss.  After you pass your first set of rising and falling platforms you will see a Stone Spike situated on a small platform in the air.  To reach this platform you must jump off of a Bullet Bill and jump off of the Stone Spike’s head to reach the Star Coin.  Or use a Propeller Head to reach it.

Star Coin #2

Star Coin number two is very easy to get and it located at the second set of rising and falling platforms.  To get this coin simply jump across the moving platforms to get it.

Star Coin #3

The third Star Coin is much more difficult to get and I even had to come back to get it using a Propeller Head (and this is how I suggest you do it).  If you want to try and get in using the more difficult method then you will need to time everything perfectly.  First off you will need Ice Mario, then when you are crossing through the third cave section you will run into a lot of Bullet Bills.  At the start of the third cave section you will see some Bullet Bills that are set higher in the air.  You will need to follow these out of the cave making sure that they never leave your sight.  Once outside of the cave you will need to freeze the Bullet Bills in order to create a set of stairs leading up to the overhand shown above.  Like I said, get a Propeller Head.

Level 6-2

Star Coin #1

After passing the first place where the ground is spinning, you will pass a large Piranha Plant; just after passing the plant you will notice a diamond shaped hole in the floor beneath you (shown above).  Grab a shell from somewhere and throw the shell at the block sitting just to the right of that hole, and once it’s broken walk or slide underneath it.

After walking underneath the wall, simply jump up and grab the coin.

Star Coin #2

The second Star Coin is located in an area that isn’t too far from the checkpoint flag.  It is hanging in the air above a green pipe with a Piranha Plant inside.  Freeze the Piranha Plant and jump up on the ice block to reach the second coin.

Star Coin #3

A little way down the path you will come to another section of ground that is spinning, but this time you will need to wait for that ground to spin around until it reveals a pipe, enter that pipe.

Once inside you will need to hit the P Switch and watch out for the Spinys before jumping up to get the final coin.

Level 6-3

Star Coin #1

To retrieve the Star Coins in this level, you will want to make sure you get Fire Mario because it is pretty much the only way to do it, though I am sure many others have found ways around having to use fire power.  After you have obtained a Fire Flower from the ? Block in the beginning of this level, you will come to a space in the level that looks like the one above.  The first Star Coin is located here and all you need to do to snatch it is to use fireballs on the Giant Piranha Plant and then ride the pot up and Wall-Jump off of the wall to get the coin.

Star Coin #2

To get the second Star Coin walk a little further down the path until you come to a section that looks like the picture above with a ? Switch located on the left.  Hitting the ? Switch will cause the water level to rise up allowing you to get the coin on the right.  You must first take out the Giant Piranha Plant using your fireballs in order to clear the way.

Star Coin #3

Almost as soon as you pass the checkpoint flag in this level you will come to a place that looks like the one above with two Giant Piranha Plants.  Take these Piranha Plants out and jump up through the block ceiling on the right (shown above).  Once you are standing on the blocks, Wall-Jump up as high as you can go and you will eventually be taken to a new area.

From here, simply jump up and grab the coin.  To exit just jump up through the platform on the left and enter down the second pipe located to the left of the ? block.

Level 6-4

Star Coin #1

To get this first coin you will need to make sure that you took advantage of the Propeller Head opportunity at the beginning of the level, because Yoshi just won’t cut it this time.  Spin Mario up into the air to get the first coin, which you can’t miss.

Star Coin #2

At the area where the checkpoint flag is located you will see a gap between the flag and the next platform, you will need to jump into this gap.  Actually it’s more like a running start, so back up a little and run into the gap.  Just before you fall to your death spin Mario over to the right onto a ledge with a pipe that looks like this:

Go down the pipe.

Use the propeller to reach the POW block once you are inside.  Throw the POW block down to reveal the hidden Star Coin.

Star Coin #3

After exiting the room where coin number two was located, continue right until you enter a cave area.  You will come to a pulley in which you will need to stand on the left end to raise the right side up high enough to reach the hidden ledge shown in the picture above.  Jump up on the the ledge and continue to the right.

Get the coin.

Level 6-Tower

Star Coin #1

The first Star Coin in the Tower level is a little hard to get and requires some pretty good timing.  First thing you have to worry about in this level is the huge spiked pistons that cover the majority of the map, so you have to time your jumps just right.  When you come to your first platform that is moving from side to side then you will know that you have reached the location of the first Star Coin.  Wait for the platform to move to the left before jump over to the wall, and then wall slide down the wall until you fall into the hidden area.  Stand to the right of the moving platform if you feel like you are about to be crushed by the pistons.  Another hint to finding the first Star Coin is to look for the Dry Bones directly above.

Star Coin #2

It’s important to note here that the second Star Coin is located at the checkpoint flag where the top and bottom piston meet.  The coin is hidden in the picture above, but it is located right behind the top piston; wall jump up to grab it when the pistons move.

Star Coin #3

The third Star Coin is by far the hardest one to get in this level, and you will need to time everything right.  Making sure that you stay clear of the pistons is the key to getting the coin.  The pathway leading up will get narrower as you get closer to the coin, leaving you very little room to maneuver when the piston comes down.  When you are standing on the final platform, moving from side-to-side, wait for the piston to go back up and then Wall-Jump your way up to grab it and continue up to the red door just above.

Level 6-5

Star Coin #1

Having Fire Mario helps tremendously in this level because you can use it to clear out that pesky Porcupuffer that gets in the way of every Star Coin.  The first Star Coin is at the beginning of the level and all you need to do is clear out the Porcupuffer and jump down to get it, or wait for the Porcupuffer to move by it and jump down quickly to get it.

Star Coin #2

Upon entering your first large cave area you will see an area with three rock ledges and a Star Coin located beneath them.  Simply drop down to grab it, but make sure you take out the Porcupuffer beforehand.

Star Coin #3

After exiting the large cave area you will see four large ? blocks floating in the water.  The water here rises and falls periodically.  Between the two blocks in the middle is a hidden block that exposes a vine when hit.  Hit the block to expose the vine and climb the vine.

Once you have entered the new area, grab the propeller block and run along the path to the right.  You will eventually get to a ? block that has wings, jump on that block and use the Propeller block to reach the Star Coin high and to the right.

Level 6-6

Star Coin #1

This level can be difficult to get through without looking for Star Coins, so finding those makes it that much harder.  Tilt your Wii remote to shine the light from the boat on certain locations to reveal items.  The first item you need is the POW block located on the second set of platforms that you come to.  Grab the POW block and wait for the boat to fall under the coin before you throw it down causing the coin to fall on the boat.

Star Coin #2

After passing the checkpoint flag, jump up on the next set of ledges and grab the spring board up on the ledge and place it on the boat.

Wait for the boat to ride under the Star Coin and then use the spring board to jump up and get it.  If you forgot the spring board then use the Swoops to jump up and get it.

Star Coin #3

A little way down the river you will need to shine your light up to this area shown above and you will need to use the spring board or a Swoop to jump up and grab the Propeller block.  Once you have the block jump back down on the boat.

Next use the Propeller block to jump up to the area shown above, and then run over to the left to quickly grab the coin.

Level 6-Castle

Star Coin #1

It pays to be Ice Mario in this level, so make sure you take the necessary steps to do that.  When you get to the fourth pendulum then you can jump up on the blocks shown in the picture above.  Make sure that you freeze a Dry Bones before you get here so you can throw it across the blocks where the Star Coin is located in order to clear out Dry Bones and obtain the coin.

Star Coin #2

Shortly after grabbing the first Star Coin you will come to a pendulum with three ? blocks located above them, and a Star Coin located high above them.  Jump on the ? blocks and wait for the left side to rise up and meet the coin before you jump over to grab it.

Star Coin #3

The final section you come to requires you to dodge spiked balls while avoiding falling into the lava when the pendulums dip down.  At the end of this section is where the third and final Star Coin is located.

Level 6-Ship

Star Coin #1

After passing over the first set of spinning circular platforms you will come to a place that looks like this.  Use a Ground-Pound to break the boxes containing the coin.

Star Coin #2

Make your way down the large yellow podiums after grabbing the first Star Coin and break the boxes surrounding the pipe and enter the pipe.

You will enter an area underneath the ship with spinning circular platforms.  Make your way across the platforms without falling to your death and you will find the coin at the end.

Star Coin #3

Once you have passed the Red Ring you will see even more boxes hiding the final Star Coin.  Break through the boxes using a Ground-Pound and snatch up the coin.

That concludes my walkthrough of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Star Coin Location Guide for World 6.  I hope you all found this very helpful and informative.  If you have any questions or feedback please feel free to leave a comment.
