World 4

Level 1

Star Coin #1

World 4-1 Star 1

Most of World 4 will involve water, whether you are swimming through it or traversing the level above it.  That means you will run across a lot of Penguin suits, so keep in mind that a good number of the Star Coins you have to get will involve using either snowballs or just straight up swimming.  For this Star Coin you will need to utilize the snowball either by using an Ice Flower or a Penguin Suit.  You get to grab a Penguin Suit at the beginning of the level so that’s the most likely choice; the Star Coin isn’t far from the suit.  Freeze a nearby Piranha Plant and jump on the ice block when it floats to the top.

Star Coin #2

World 4-1 Star 2

The second star is a little over halfway through the level and not too far past the checkpoint flag.  You will see an Urchin floating around just under the Coin and you will need to freeze the urchin and jump on it to reach the coin.  Remember that if you wait too long the Urchin will break free from the ice block, so you may need to refreeze it.

Star Coin #3

World 4-1 Star 3

The third Star Coin is located right at the end of the level just before you enter the set of pipes to reach the flag.  Before reaching this section you will encounter a series of Urchins that you will need to freeze and jump from in order to jump up to the final coin shown in the picture above.

Level 2

Star Coin #1

World 4-2 Star 1

This first coin is very easy to achieve, you will simply need to jump on the barrel shown above and grab the Star Coin and jump off quickly before you fall off the barrel, and watch out for fishys.

Star Coin #2

World 4-2 Star 2

The second Star Coin is located a little over halfway through the level once you get to the cave section with the rock ledges.  You will need to be “big” Mario in order to get this coin without having to jump into the water.  Jump up on the ledge and then hang off the bottom of the ledge by pushing down on the D-Pad.  Then simply shimmy your way over to the coin.

Star Coin #3

World 4-2 Star 3

The third coin is in the same area as the second star coin but is located in an area just before you exit the cave.  The coin will be very easy to see, so you shouldn’t miss it.  Jump down on the rocky ledge and hang off of it by pushing down.  Shimmy over to the section just under the coin, and push up on the D-Pad to stand back up on the ledge and jump up to get the coin.  If you hang or stand too long on the yellow ledge then it will fall from beneath you and you’ll be sent into the fish infested waters below.

Level 3

Star Coin#1

World 4-3 Star 1

Coin number one is right at the beginning of the level soon after the ground fades away into water.  Use the platforms above the water to jump up on top of the ? block just below the Star Coin and then you will be within reach to grab it.

Star Coin #2

World 4-3 Star 2

Just before you reach the checkpoint flag in this level you will see a Star Coin situated just above the head of a giant Urchin.  The platform above the coin has a ? block which holds a mini mushroom in order to produce a Mini Mario.  Partake of this delicious fungus and you will then have the power to walk on water while moving.  This will give you just the abilities you need to run across the water and jump over the Urchin’s head to grab the Star Coin.

Star Coin #3

World 4-3 Star 3-1

If you are still Mini Mario then when you get to this section, which is a little bit ahead of the area of Star Coin #2 then you will need to run across the top of the water and into the green pipe to the right.  If you have lost Mini Mario then you can go a little further ahead past this point to find another hidden in a ? block.

World 4-3 Star 3-2

Once inside the small green pipe just make your way to the center of the heart shaped coins and grab the Star Coin and as many coins as possible along the way.  Then make your way out by using the green pipe on the right.

Level: Tower

Star Coin #1

World 4-Tower Star 1

After exiting the top of the first pipe you enter, you will see this Star Coin located above sets of metal blocks moving across a conveyor belt.  Jump on top of the moving blocks to jump up and grab the Star Coin, but be careful not to fall to your death.

Star Coin #2

World 4-Tower Star 2

Star Coin #2 is hidden but is very easy to get.  The only difficult challenge here is making your way across the short conveyor belts.  The conveyor belts move in different directions so you may be thrown off of them a few times before you can make your way to the coin.  The Star Coin is located in a hidden section of the wall located just below the checkpoint flag shown above.

Star Coin #3

World 4-Tower Star 3

This coin is much more difficult to obtain and requires very precise timing and sum guts.  One wrong move and you’ll be experiencing Mario’s new power-up, Flat Mario.  The blocks fall in this order (top row is 1st row and bottom row is 4th row):  top row (1st row), 2nd row, 3rd row, 1st row, 4th row (here is when you need to make your move), 2nd row, 3rd row, 4th row.  If it gets to the point where the 3rd block drops from the 4th row then you can forget about grabbing the coin.  There problem here is that it all happens so fast, I can’t even be 100% sure that they fall in this order.  When that bottom row block falls down then you need to jump on it quick; once the block from the 2nd row falls then you need to be on top of it and grabbing the coin before the third block from 1st row falls.  If all of this is very confusing, and I’m sure it is, then give it a couple of tries and you will find out what you need to do real quick.

Level 4

Star Coin #1

World 4-4 Star 1-1

I personally find this level very aggravating and difficult at times because you will be attacked by surprise jellyfish constantly throughout the level.  Having a penguin suit here helps because it allows you to have better control over your actions, so keep this in mind.  After passing the checkpoint flag in this level you will see a P Switch not too far down the path that you will need to swim up to hit.  Once you have hit it a path of blue coins will appear, follow it towards an orange pipe hanging from the ceiling.  You can’t swim into this pipe if you don’t hit the P Switch because an air jet keeps you from swimming upwards into it.

World 4-4 Star 1-2

World 4-4 Star 1-3

Once inside the pipe you will need to freeze the Cheep Cheep swimming around inside the area and use his frozen body to reach the first coin of the level.

Star Coin #2

World 4-4 Star 2

The second Star Coin is easy to see and reach, you just need to watch out for Bloopers (jellyfish) floating around and shooting out at you.  It is located in the gap shown above right between the two green pipes.  Be quick when you grab the coin and get out of there as soon as possible.

Star Coin #3

World 4-4 Star 3

Star Coin number three is hidden but also very easy to get.  After getting Star Coin #2 you will reach a section of solid ground; in front of you, you will notice a piece of land jutting up, walk into this piece of land and find the third Star Coin.

Level: Ghost House

Star Coin #1

World 4-GhostHouse Star 1

Ghost Houses are always a little more tricky, so don’t expect to see any Star Coins out in the open.  All of the Star Coins here will be hiding from you, but none of them are very difficult to get.  As far as the first coin goes, it is located in the first room that you enter, you will see a path of rising and falling platforms.  Certain platforms raise up when you stand on them while others fall down when you stand on them.  The coin is located at the sixth platform, and you will need to stand on it and wait for it to lower to reveal the coin.

Star Coin #2

World 4-GhostHouse Star 2

The second Star Coin is located at the end of the next room in a hidden area just past the door.  After going past the door at the end of this room shown above, continue to walk into the wall and then jump your way up to the top to grab the coin.

Star Coin #3

World 4-GhostHouse Star 3-1

Finding the third coin will probably require you to restart the level because the door to the third coin is hidden beneath the twelfth rising and falling platform.  Enter the door here to get to this section shown below.

World 4-GhostHouse Star 3-2

Once inside of the hidden door just make your way to the right of the room and stand on the platform shown above so it reaches up to a point where you can grab the coin.

Level 5

Star Coin #1

World 4-5 Star 1

The first Star Coin is located right at the beginning of the level and you can get it one of two ways, either by using a Flutter-Jump with Yoshi off of a tree or a Lakitus’ cloud to float up and grab the coin.

Star Coin #2

World 4-5 Star 2

The second Star Coin can only be obtained by using a Lakitus’ cloud.  It’s located just a little ways ahead of the first Star Coin, and you will simply need to use Yoshi’s tongue to grab Lakitus, then use his cloud to ride up to the Star Coin shown above.

Star Coin #3

World 4-5 Star 3-1

Here you will need another Lakitus cloud in order to reach the green pipe shown above.  The pipe is located just down the path from the previous Star Coin, just float up with cloud and you can use the tree to jump up into the pipe.

World 4-5 Star 3-2

Once inside the pipe you need to hit one of the clouds and take out yet another Lakitus so you can use its cloud to ride up to grab the Star Coin high above the trees.

Level: Castle

Star Coin #1

World 4-Castle Star 1-1

Once inside of the Castle you will notice many grates hanging in the air that you can climb on.  Some of these grates have sections that you can hit with Mario’s hand to flip that section over so you can climb on the back-side of the grate.  You will need to do this in order to get the first Star Coin.  When you find the grate shown above have Mario hit the small square section on the grate to flip it over.  This will allow you to climb onto the back-side of the grates ahead.

World 4-Castle Star 1-2

Just ahead of the place where you flip onto the other side of the grate you will be able to jump on the grate and work your way towards the Star Coin as shown above.

Star Coin #2

World 4-Castle Star 2

Shortly after passing the first Star Coin you will come the next pace where two spiked drills are slamming together.  The Star Coin is located at the point where those drills meet.  Jump down to grab it quickly.

Star Coin #3

World 4-Castle Star 3-1

The last coin is located in a pipe at the end of a long room with a very very long spiked drill that smashes into the other side.  You need to make your way all the way to the right of the room and down the pipe shown above.  You will need to take your time making your way across the room to avoid getting hit by the drill.

World 4-Castle 3-2

Once inside take out the Wet Bones and swim down to grab the coin.

Level: Ship

Star Coin #1

World 4-Ship Star 1

I’m sure many of you are getting very reminiscent by now seeing as how we are on a ship very similar to the ones we saw on Super Mario Bros. 3.  In fact, if I’m not mistaken, that may actually be the same music that was played on the ships in the previous game.  With all that said, don’t expect the same things out of this ship, you may find this one a bit more difficult.  The first Star Coin is easy enough to achieve; it is located just past the first set of burners down in a hole.  Jump down to grab it while watching out for the burner closest to you.

Star Coin #2

A little further ahead you will see a pipe covered up by wooden boxes like the ones above.  You will need to use a Ground-Pound to break this boxes and head down the pipe to the location of the second Star Coin.

In this next section you will need to be very careful because falling off will send you to your death.  What you will see is what appears to be a screw like object, you will need to jump on this object to make is spin.  The trick is to continue to jump up and down on it because if you stop then you will slide off and fall.  Make your way to the right of the map and you will eventually grab the coin.

Star Coin #3

Right at the end you will come a section that looks like this except a box will be blocking the way underneath the green pipe.  You will need to grab a Bob-omb and throw it at the box to make it explode, then just run underneath the pipe and jump up to get the final coin of World 4.

Once again I hope you found the walkthrough very useful, and if you have any questions or if you want to leave some feedback feel free to leave a comment.
