I’m all about my box art. One of your first impressions of a game is the game’s box art, so if it sucks how will it stand above the rest? I guess if you’re the type of person who searches every dark corner of the vast and knowledgeable interwebs for any gem of information on the game(s) you’re looking forward to that example doesn’t work, but I digress. Final Fantasy XIII took the clean, hero in the center approach that’s makes the game seem a little more generic than it probably is. Then there’s Gran Tursimo’s box art that also focuses on a single object, in this case the Mercedes SLS AMG, but adds a bit of flair to it so the cover catches your eye. None of these can beat Borderlands’ box art, which ten years from now will be framed in a museum with multitudes of people gawking at it. Feast your eyes on this delicious piece of art:
As beautiful as the above image is, it’s not the reason you’re reading this article so let’s move on to the newly unveiled Heavy Rain box art, shall we? I love the lack of color in the overall image, which definitely mirrors the game’s somber tone. Hopefully the game will live up to its potential, and from what I’ve seen it looks to be shaping up quite nicely.
Heavy Rain releases for the PS3 on February 23rd.
