Borderlands Strategy Guide – Skag Gully Part 1

A large chunk of the missions in Borderlands are completely, 100% optional, meaning that you could theoretically skip every single one of them and still beat the game. However, skipping too many of these side missions will make the story missions a lot more difficult, as you’ll be a lot weaker. Not only are they important for leveling up, they’re a hell of a lot of fun, too. And what kind of guide would this be if I didn’t walk you through everything on Pandora?

Skag Gully, the area you just traversed on your way to Nine-Toes, has more work that needs to be done, and that’s what I’ll be covering in this guide.

T.K. Has More Work

To start this quest, you’ll have to accept it from the Fyrestone Bounty Board, which will just tell you to go back to T.K. Baha. That’s it. Once you talk to T.K., you’ll get an exceptionally easy 360 XP and $776, as well as two new missions.

The following section will cover three missions: T.K.’s Life and Limb, By The Seeds of Your Pants, and Why Are They Here. All three missions can be completed in Skag Gully, which is why I’m lumping them all together in one big walkthrough.

Accept T.K.’s two missions and head off for Skag Gully. Once inside, you should see a Bandit Data Recorder on the left of the path, just past the vending machines. Pick it up and accept the Why Are They Here quest.

The first thing you’re going to go for is the second recorder. Start out by going the direction of Nine-Toes hideout. Take the first right when you enter the gully, make your way through the skag areas, under the stone bridge, and past T.K.’s wife’s grave. When you get to the entrance of Nine-Toes’s hideout, hang a right instead.

As a side note, if you’ve exited the game and restarted since defeating Nine-Toes, all of the chests in his hideout will be reset. He’ll still be there, but his pets won’t be, which makes him a lot easier to take down. It’s worth it if you have the time, as you never know what kind of weapons you’ll find.

After you’ve taken the right at the hideout, it’s all pretty straightforward. You’ll have to fight through some more skags and some rakks, but eventually you’ll come to the stone bridge that you went under earlier. Across the bridge, you’ll fight even more skags, but you’ll also find some loot as well as another recorder.

Once you’ve taken everything that isn’t nailed down, hop down below and head northeast, sticking to the right as to avoid unnecessary encounters, though you will have to fight a few skags and racks. You’ll be going up against spitter skags now, which spit corrosive acid at you. The closer you are to them, the harder it is to dodge their attacks, but they’re weak to melee attacks, so it’s up to you how daring you want to be.

Keep following the right wall and you’ll eventually come to a tent with a few corpses and the third recorder, but this is also the location of a rakk fight, so keep a shotgun handy if you have one.

In the next guide, we’ll take on Scar.
