Well, it appears that Sony has stopped the hackers.. for now.
If you’ve been on the Internet recently, you’ve undoubtedly heard about all of these new hacks for the Playstation 3 such as the PSJailBreak or the PSGroove and so on. Said hacks are actually stored on USB devices and will do things to the Playstation 3 that Sony had made sure no one could do for over 4 years.
Well, with these USB devices being sold online and at some willing retailers, Sony needed to come up with a quick patch, and quick they did.
This new Firmware for the PS3 was kept a secret, with Sony waiting for everyone to have downloaded it first before laughing at the faces of potential hackers.
“Hi everyone! A minor update to your PS3 system is now available via system software update v3.42 that includes additional security features.”
Unfortunately, these “hackers” have already began informing potential customers that there has already been a workaround — which will allow users to still use said USB devices while connected to the Internet. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next.
