MLB 10: The Show Preview

If there was ever a doubt in anyone’s mind what was the best baseball game on the market, MLB 09: The Show for PS3 put them to rest last year. This time around, the The Show 10 looks to improve on one of its best games yet.

MLB: The Show is probably most acclaimed for its popular Road To The Show gamemode. Afterall, just about every EA sports title has some form or variation of this. With RTTS being so popular already, how could it be improved? One new addition is be the ability to play the catcher position. You won’t just be standing behind the plate waiting for the pitch, you’ll be deciding what kind of pitch you will get, and locating it for your pitcher. If contact is made, you’ll have complete control of your created player. That’s going to be especially critical when trying to throw or tag out that winning run on third.

Among other new features include a renovated pick off system for pitchers. This time around you’ll find that you have a few different options to throw out that runner on first. You will be able to initiate one of three different tactics. A standard pickoff play, a sneaky pickoff, and a quick pickoff option are all at your disposal while on the mound. This requires players to pay that much more attention while on the bases, as the pitcher will surely send them different looks throughout the game.

Continuing on with new additions, you now also have a choice to go about how you would like to attempt that home-run robbing catch before it leaves the yard. With the inclusion of backhand, forehand, and making catches directly into the wall – skilled defensive outfielders are licking their chops at making a big play for their team.

MLB 10: The Show is a Playstation exclusive and will be out in stores March 3rd, 2010. Look for a review shortly after the release.
