Call of Duty: Black Ops Beating Modern Warfare 2 Pre-Order Numbers

If you’ve forgotten, Modern Warfare 2 is so far one of the most pre-ordered games in video game history. With the hype it received and online retailers claiming that a staggering  150+ copies were being pre-ordered every minute, it’s not hard to believe. However, Black Ops might be on track to beat those numbers.

Call of Duty: Black Ops, Activision and Treyarch’s Cold War FPS, is said to be on the road to passing the pre-order numbers for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, claims an analyst.

Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson has confirmed that Treyarch’s latest entry to the Call of Duty franchise is steadily beating Modern Warfare 2 in terms of pre-orders. Evan Wilson stated that he found this out from several sources within reatil.

Evan Wilson then went on to say that he now predicts that Black Ops will sell a total of 12 million copies worldwide, instead of the 10 million he estimated not too long ago.

Although all of this may sound good, the analyst believes that the trend of each new CoD game outperforming the previous will come to an end with Black Ops, stating that “competition, weaker marketing, and the Infinity Ward situation” are to blame.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is scheduled to be released on November 9th 2010.
