Sid Meier, head of the creative department at Firaxis Games, announced plans to release a new installment in the popular Civilization series for Facebook last October. He also added at the time that the game would enter beta testing “soon”.
The developer stated that they were “expanding the Civilization gameplay experience to include solo, competitive and cooperative play to take advantage of the uniqueness of social networks”.
“The game will offer everything you enjoy in Civ in a fully persistent environment – you can play as much as you like, whenever you like, and it’ll be free-to-play,” said Meier.
Unfortunately, those wanting to take advantage of the social media Civ title may have to wait a while for the official launch. When talking to Variety, Take-Two announced that the game is now planned to enter beta testing sometime in June, 8 months after the initial unveiling.
