Ubisoft Plans To Release Top Franchises Regularly

If you’ve gotten used to the way a new version of Need For Speed comes out each year, expect Ubisoft to do the same their popular games as well. This includes but isn’t limited to Assassins Creed, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Ghost Recon, and even Driver each being released more often. With a new Assassins Creed due to be released sometime this year, this could be the start of the process.

I believe this will net them more of a profit, but I am expecting the quality of these titles to diminish. I simply cannot see a title not getting bland after continually receiving yearly releases. When was the last time a NFS game was relevant? How many years in a row did Madden feel the same with minimal upgrades? What about the Guitar Hero / Rock Band franchises?

Ubisoft did go on to mention that this will not mean they won’t continue to release new franchises, and confirmed new titles will be launched in 2011, and 2012. There are also plans to make available online play for each Ubisoft game released in the future. I’ve always enjoyed experiencing any online content a game provides. It adds to the replay value, and gives us all another reason to purchase their games.

Will online play and frequent franchise releases prove to be a successful formula for Ubisoft? We may need to ask EA that.
