Highlander the Video Game dated (again)

Highlander the Video Game dated (again)

There can be only one release, and heaven help us, maybe Eido’s Highlander video game will materialize this year. Amazon.com is now showing a release date of March 30th, 2010 for this game that only the die-hards will want.

This game has been in development hell for the past two years, with an original date looking back to 2008, and then pushed to early 2009. At least, like the immortal hero who travels through time the hard way, eventually he’s going to be the last one to strike it out against the Kurgan. Expected are appearances from the rest of the MacLeod family.

But this time, instead of being Conner or Duncan and following the series continuity, there’s yet another MacLeod (Owen) who gains the power of immortality.

The game promises to start players up by travelling the world. From 1st Century Pompeii to a futuristic New York, the quest is to find a some stone fragments that will give the wielder great power.

But wait, this isn’t Spiderman. With great power comes great responsibility, and for an immortal who gains new abilities by  cleaving off the heads of his enemies (taken from the television mythos), how one progresses will be interesting.

There’s no official statement explaining the delay. What is known and marketed with very little fanfare are two facts. David Abramowitz was Creative Consultant (Head Writer) to the television series and he contributed to the the video-game treatment. And the game uses the Unreal Engine 3, which will mean some nice graphics for when this game will get released.

Let’s just hope it lives up to the Highlander name.

This game will be available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
