There’s a new look to the Doctor and to coincide with the rebranding of BBC’s most famous icon, BBC Worldwide is offering game developers and publishers an opportunity to develop games for the UK’s most beloved Time Lord.
“What we’re trying to do is build the brands here – this is not about opportunistic licensing. If we wanted to do that we would have done more with these key brands over the last few years,” said Ross Russell, new head of Managing Director for Children’s & Licensing Division, in an interview with MCV.
The company wants to come back to the video game market, and have its product available for consoles like the DS and the Wii. They’re also considering applications on Facebook and mobiles (cel phones) too, like the iPhone.
“There will be boxed product console games, virtual worlds and other experiences,” explained Dave Anderson, head of multimedia development at BBC Worldwide to MCV.
According to Anderson, they’ve been taking a wait and see approach in order to find out how the market is developing.
After BBC Multimedia folded in 2005 due to plummeting sales, like the Doctor, it’s time to regenerate.
