now Wii owners can experience the….. wait, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare?
Yep, Activision have now announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (also known by most gamers as COD4) will be available on the Wii, the exact same date as Modern Warfare 2 is set to be released.
Kotaku.com writes: “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be a port of Infinity Ward’s blockbuster hit Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, originally released in 2007 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The Wii version of that game is planned to arrive on November 10 of this year, the same day that Modern Warfare 2 ships to retail.”
Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War have already been released on the Wii, but if you remember, Modern Warfare skipped the Wii, but now they seem eager to release it.
A question that I’m sure will strike most people is: “why bother releasing it now?” This release not only leads me to this question, but also my thoughts on Activision “milking” the Modern Warfare name are increasing dramatically.
Activision have not released much information about the release, nor have they released screenshots.
What are your thoughts on Activision “milking” the Modern Warfare name, are they milking it, or is the release of this game on the Wii a sign of good gesture to the consumers of previous Call of Duty games to have hit the Wii?

In my opinion, I think that Activision are starting to push it a bit, to say the least. There is really no point in releasing “COD4″ onto the Wii.
I believe that their main purpose is just to earn a bit of money, as some people will be curious about this game, and buy it.
I think they originally skipped release on the Wii due to the Wii not being a console for these types of games. Why release it now? probably to milk the product for all its worth, although im not sure if Wii players are the type to buy a war/shooter game.
Yeah, I think that they just want another source of income, however small it may be.
No doubt they want more money. I would go so far as to say that 100% of the videogames released on the market are released with just that intention in mind.
That said, it’s not as if the Wii market can exactly complain about the shooter being two years old. Wii shooters are horribly watered down versions of their 360 and PS3 counterparts, if Wii owners can put up with the other shortcomings of shooters on their console, they can put up with it being an old port.
The Wii works much better with rail shooters in my opinion. Could just be a “testing the waters” thing as well, there’s really no point in making a multi-million-dollar game for a console because it “might” work.
Very good point. They’ll get an idea of how many MW fans own, and will play on a Wii. Activision’s earnings from this may be small, but it probably will cost them much less to port.
Yep! Thought of the same exact thing. It seems to me that, in a way, it is sort of a test run. Dont u thing?
Yeah, probably is, if it goes well, I think that Activision will be sure to keep the Wii up to date.
Good point, didnt see it from that angle at all
