It seems as if The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, due out December 7 for the DS, will be offering quite the challenge for gamers. In a recent interview with Kotaku, Eiji Aonuma stated that the upcoming title in the Zelda franchise would provide a challenging quest for veteran Zelda followers.
Aonuma stated that one of the lead planners on the Spirit Tracks team is actually a programmer, hence the different, more mathematical approach to puzzles in the game. “Development team members, including [senior Nintendo developer] Mr. [Takashi] Tezuka and myself, actually got stuck in several places,” stated Aonuma. “So the dungeons and puzzles pose a different type of challenge than what we have utilized in previous games, and will certainly require longtime Zelda fans to approach each challenge differently. ”
This new approach to puzzles in the Zelda franchise is an interesting one to say the least. One can only imagine the types of challenges that await in Spirit Tracks. The full interview with Aonuma can be read here. Aonuma talks with Kotaku about the controls in Spirit Tracks as well as the Tower of Spirits (which is essentially this game’s Temple of the Ocean King).
