Uncharted 2 “Gold Rush” co-op preview

Last week at Comic-Con Naughty Dog developers revealed the first live cooperative game play demo for their upcoming title, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.  In a game they’re calling “Gold Rush” players work together to capture a treasure from a random spawn point and secure it at a designated area of the map, all while battling through waves of AI.  In addition to securing the treasure, players must also defeat all of their enemies before moving onto the next round.  Each round the enemies will become more difficult and the battle more intense.

The designers have polished up the game nicely since the opening of the multiplayer beta during E3 2009.  Watch as Arne Meyer of the Naughty Dog development team demonstrates “Gold Rush” for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves at this year’s Comic-Con.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is scheduled to release exc-0p[vc ]=klusively on the Playstation 3 in October 2009.

  1. good preview the gameplay video looks good, very smooth and renders nice. These types of shooter games are becoming popular main stream.. its basically first one out the door with new features then all the other games follow within the next version or update.

  2. After playing in the beta I felt that the competitive multiplayer experience was irrelevant to what would make this game a success. As a sequel it has a tough act to follow. So far it’s looking like they managed to improve everything great about the first title, which is what is important in my opinion, but having a fun cooperative mode will be a nice bonus.

  3. It seems like more and more games are following off of Gear Of War 2’s “Horde” Halo 3: ODST have already announced “Fire fight” and now Uncharted too.

  4. Survival game modes in general seem to have had a great deal of success. “Hore” was fun and is still played a lot, and look at the success that Nazi Zombies has brought to Call of Duty: World at War. Having an objective to complete before eliminating all of your enemies is a challenging twist to the concept.

  5. @Harry, that co-op “Wave” mode you’re talking about has been in games long before Gears of War. I can even remember Ghost Recon having it years before Gears. It does look like it’s becoming more and more popular, but I don’t understand why it took so long, I’ve rarely heard anyone complain about it.
