Tomb Raider Getting Multiplayer?

The news of a new Tomb Raider game was leaked earlier this year by a job posting and now it looks like another job posting has leaked the news that the upcoming Tomb Raider may have a multiplayer mode.

The job posting, according to Blend Games, reads that developer Crystal Dynamics is seeking a lead designer for a triple-A title for Xbox 360 and PS3, and that this designer will be responsible for the “multiplayer vision and design effort” and creating “multiplayer maps.”

This is almost definitely for the new Tomb Raider game, as it mentions a AAA title and in the first half of 2009, the developer laid off fifty-five employees to increase their focus on only the Tomb Raider series.

Crystal Dynamic’s creative director Eric Lindstrom has said in the past that multiplayer is always considered with each installment of Tomb Raider and suggested it was only a matter of time.

I’ve never been a fan of the series, but I’ve always had a lingering interest in it. I’m almost completely opposed to purchasing games that don’t contain multiplayer, so maybe this is the installment that will finally get me into the series.

Any diehard tomb raiders out there?

  1. As far as I’m concerned, there are four TR games and one remake. 😛

Still, multiplayer, can’t say I fathomed that being possible, but it does have potential to it if the players decide to not be pricks.

  2. The Tomb Raider series has dryed up a bit. I have to admit, I’ve had very little toime for it since its PS1 days. Legend and Anniversary were quite good. They just didn’t really capture the series for me quite like the originals did.

Multiplayer would be quite interesting. I’m not entirely sure how it would work, but it might just be what the series needs.

  3. yeah in all seriousness if they gave us a review copy id probably play it.. but there are way to many great games out right now and many more coming in the new year that are going to drain my time and life energy.
