Stargate worlds

Well Stargate fans it will take some time but the game is being made! Cheyenne mountain entertainment is working around the clock to bring you a great online experience of the Stargate universe. SGW is a real time combat MMO that will take you too the far reaches of our universe using a alien device called The Stargate.
Lore
There are thousands of stargates that are connected with each other on different plants and are usually environmental friendly toward humans. The lore suggests that it is because humans came to being because of the stargates that aliens used and put the humans there. The aliens in this case were an evil monarchy based race that controlled it’s followers by introducing themselves as godlike beings.
That’s all the lore you need to know to gain an interest into the universe. If you are hungry for more I suggest you take look at anything that exists with the word stargate in it including the movies and series.

The game
About the game mechanics is little known. The developers said that combat will be third person tactical shooter with various classes so go figure.
The classes are Archeologist, Asgard, Goa’uld (which by the way I will be playing), Jaffa, Scientist, Soldier and Commando. Each archetype is restricted to a certain race though.
The game will have a main storyline for each archetype. It is speculated that the stories will intertwine at some point. The developer’s main aim is to deliver the classical archetypes from the series into the game giving, mostly fans, the ability to play the series. I saw that smirk on your face you Stargate fans!
You just can’t wait to be O’Neil or Shepard and make variations on those names.
The developers also promise a huge amounts of planets that will be big. When I say big I mean “It is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to the planets.” – minor edit.My thought is that it has high potential however if it will have a nice launch with good game play we could have a nice MMO on our hands. Let’s just hope it doesn’t end like Tabula Rasa did.

  1. Sounds pretty cool. I watched Stargate quite often when I had the chance, and to be honest, it was what sci-fi was meant to be.

I can imagine it working well. Quite a lot of MMO’s involve a lot of maps and plenty of walking to get from point A to point B, but I can imagine this working more like Phantasy Star Online.

  2. Huge fan of the movie and tv show, cant wait for this to come out. Im almost certain its going to be like all the recent popular army strategy shooters that have come out such as Call of Duty and Gears of War.

  3. You know, I’ll believe it when I see it all done and on the market. As a huge SG-1 fan, I’ve been waiting for this for ages. I hope it does finally become a reality. There are a lot of fans like me waiting for it with baited breath.

  4. Hehe, I feel so lonely, I think I have only watched one episode on TV, and it was by mistake, I’ve never really been a fan of these types of Sci-fi.

  5. Never watched it on tv (though that was probably a mistake as I probably would of enjoyed it). I pretty much lost interest in the game though when it said it was an ‘MMO’. I’ve never really got into them, and much prefer games with a great single player game (and just as importantly for me, a good storyline).

  6. Then I would recommend Mass Effect. Great sc-fi storyline, great game play and an all together house of fun not to mention the film like graphics and cut scenes. If that doesn’t tickle your gaming need maybe the fact that Bioware made it will. 🙂
For watching stargate I would recommend you a site but would rather mail it you.

  7. There was an older Stargate game that was a 2D scroller. Does anyone remember that? I have it buried somewhere in my archives and will have to dig that up.

I can’t wait to see what this newer version will be like though. Oh, and I consider the movie and tv series separate continuities, but I enjoy them both.

Too bad Devlin won’t see his movie continuation bear fruit tho’. :/
