Remember that so-called boycott PC gamers cooked up over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? The one where over two hundred and fifty thousand angry gamers rallied against Infinity Ward for butchering the PC version of the game? Well it turns out that didn’t do much, if any, damage to sales. Go figure!
While most people suspected the boycott wouldn’t really affect anything, we finally got some pretty concrete news from Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling on the sales of the PC version. Without going into numbers, he posted on the Infinity Ward forums that the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has outsold its PC predecessor. Not only did it outsell Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but it did so in the first week of release. This was in response to the news that the PC version picked up 3% of the overall game sales, but as Bowling says, this is just proof of how fantastic the console sales were.
This whole thing just proves that, even at 250,000 gamers strong, something as insignificant as an online petition can’t stop a juggernaut like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
I’m curious to hear if any of our readers actually followed through with the Boycott and held off on buying the game?
