Electronic Arts has just announced that they will be bringing Mirror’s Edge to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Originally released on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 last November, Mirror’s Edge follows Faith, a member of a group called the Runners, as she evades a totalitarian government and gathers and transmits information to the rest of her group.
Mirror’s Edge was known for its high-speed platforming gameplay, and despite some shortcomings, the game provided a unique, exciting first-person adventure that combined acrobatic platforming and action elements. EA has released some stills of the game which show that the iPhone iteration will not be a first-person game. Instead, the upcoming version of Mirror’s Edge will be a side-scrolling platformer.
Many people may think that this is not a good idea considering the success of the original game’s style, but this wouldn’t be the first time Mirror’s Edge ran in 2D. A flash version is currently available for free, and that game has proven that Mirror’s Edge doesn’t have to be a first-person 3D game to be enjoyable.
Despite being a side-scrolling game, the 14 levels in Mirror’s Edge will feature crisp 3D graphics and impressive lighting effects. The game is expected to launch on the iPhone and iPod Touch in January 2010.
