Mirror’s Edge has certainly been talked about quite frequently lately. I wouldn’t be surprised if protagonist Faith Connor’s ears have been buzzing like crazy. Aside from the announcement that Mirror’s Edge will be making its way to the iPhone and iPod Touch early next year, there have also been talks regarding a Mirror’s Edge sequel.
Electronic Arts has recently been laying off a lot of employees, and it should come as no surprise that with a smaller company comes more hard work for the few employees that are still there. CEO of EA John Riccitiello recently told Kotaku that EA plans on pushing new franchises all the while creating sequels for existing IPs. One such intellectual property is Mirror’s Edge.
Riccitiello stated that the folks over at EA studied the first Mirror’s Edge carefully, and that they learned a lot from it. “It was, I think, a massively innovative product. To be honest with you, I think it’s a game that deserves to come back.” Riccitiello went on to say that Mirror’s Edge 2 is definitely something that he has talked about with EA.
With Mirror’s Edge coming to Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, and with discussions regarding Mirror’s Edge 2 being much more than just water cooler talk among EA employees, it’s obvious that the franchise is something the developers care about. How will it all play out in the end, though? Will fans of the first game get a sequel? Or will EA’s budget cuts and layoffs prevent that from happening anytime soon?
