While Borderlands went through several delays during its development, it appears that the game’s expansions will not suffer that same fate. Just about three weeks ago, Gearbox and 2K Games confirmed that downloadable content was in store for Borderlands fans. Well, we now have an exact date for the first Borderlands expansion pack.
The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, as it is titled, will be released on November 24 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC launch date currently pending. A 2K Games representative stated that more information on the PC version will be released at a later time. The expansion will be priced at $9.99 and 800 Microsoft Points for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners, respectively.
The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is set to take place in an all-new location known as Jakobs Cove. Here, players will encounter undead creatures, mutants, and other types of monsters, many of which are zombie or altered versions of creatures found on the planet of Pandora. The titular Dr. Ned has accidentally unleashed these wicked creations and is now trying to clean up his mess, so players must help the Doc out by exploring all of Jakobs Cove and vanquishing the evil creatures one by one.
According to Gearbox and 2K, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is just the first in a series of expansions for Borderlands, and it is said that this initial outing will be a full-fledged experience, so gamers can expect a lengthy quest.
With a currently unofficial sequel being hinted at and numerous expansions planned, it’s pretty obvious that the folks over at Gearbox have their hands full with Borderlands. Gamers can expect more RPG/FPS hybrid goodness in the coming weeks.
