One of the best MMO’s of last year, The Chronicles of Spellborn became Free To Play. The reason – the game, “slipped through the cracks” and wasn’t successful enough. For the next year the game will be in “redevelopment”. Although no updates are planned in the near future, The Chronicles of Spellborn is still a really, really good MMORPG – now free to play.
Offering a unique battle system, a large world to explore, high character customization and many interesting quests, the game gives a unique feeling to anyone, that dares to enter it’s world.

its only “Free to Play While in Redevelopment” meaning get you hooked on the game then we are going to charge you later
The Free period will be the next one year. Considering that the game had a free version before it started redevelopment, and that there’s a new developer it will most likely be free forever.
I would assume so.. since most times when you give something for free then you start charging for it there is a revolt from the fan/user base. Companies like this need to find better more innovative ways to make money such as selling the software, additional items, gold and stuff. A lot of free online MMORPGs use this method to generate revenue.
Have you played any free to play MMO’s? Almost all of them offer cash shop items that you need to pay for. So, i won’t be suprised if Spellborn adopted this policy. But still – the game is awesome.
Yes I have played them and thats why my last comment said this is how they make money and not by charging to play
Yeah, I agree with joedigital, that’s their little plan… sneaky…
The game was pay to play, but they made it free because of low interest. Same thing happened to RF Online, Archlord and alot more MMO’s. I don’t see them being pay to play now again. Not only that, but Acclaim(the current publisher) are renowed as a Free MMO Portal. They don’t have any Pay2play games.
Yes true Acclaim/Blizzard are renowned for the free online game play.
Acclaim – yes.
Blizzard – not exactly, WoW is one of the most expensive MMO’s on the market.
WOW it looks like a bit of final fantasy 9 especially with that fat guy it looks like Stainer. Wahehehe cant wait to try this game on.
blueheavens, the game has nothing to do with Final Fantasy, or any other of your favorite games. Give it a rest, already.
blueheavens, this game looks absolutely NOTHING like ANY of the Final Fantasy games…
