Prototype is an interesting game that was releases recently on the 9th of June 2009 in North America. It was developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Activision. It runs on a titanium engine. The game is available on the Plastation3 Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 platforms. The game can be downloaded and is more compatible with the Windows Vista service pack 1 and XP service pack 3 with at least 2GB and 1 GB worth of memory available respectively.
It is available in the single player mode. Prototype can be played in a sand-box style video game. 100% DirectX9.0c compliant card is required for the graphics hardware and at least a Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz or an even better CPU.
The game has its setting in New York city. The main character is Alex mercer who has extraordinary powers that enable the player to take up different forms in an attempt to achieve the various goals that are set for him. These include shape shifting powers and ability to absorb the forms, abilities and different attributes the enemy possesses such as memory. Ability to jump, fly and use of biomass are some of the other forms of fighting capabilities he is able to use.
In an attempt to steal a vial of a virus that showed some positive attributes Alex Mercer was caught and before he was killed the virus was released and absorbed by his body. The virus manipulated and changed his genetic structure and thus the birth of his newly attained powers. He begins his quest by seeking his killers and regaining his memory and eventually fighting the virus that had caused chaos in the city with a few twists and turns that make the game even more interesting.
The game has a realistic look to it that makes it the more interesting. The various reviews show an average response. Metacritic gives the game a score of 84% after 17 reviews on Playstation3. Not all were impressed entirely with the game particularly the plot and story telling resulting in the likes of Game Revolution giving it a C+. the Xbox 360 and PC were rated 81 out of 100.
VideoGamer.com rated it 7/10 while IGN gave it a 7.5/10. With a few adjustments and improvements it can get as high as 9/10. Overally the game is enticing and can keep one entertained thus serving its purpose.
