The Japanese website, Press Watch, has listed a few ideas that Sony are mulling over in regards to the “PS4″. One of these ideas involves scrapping the use of a cell processor in exchange for a PC style multi-core processor.
Tech writer, Hiroshige Goto, has stated that Sony are also considering modifying the cell design and has referenced Intel’s Larrabee chipset as one of the possible candidates. Although Sony are technically ahead of the competition technologically with their advanced cell processor, a lot of third party developers have experienced difficulties in programming titles for the PS3. It’s good to see Sony making an effort in moving towards a more developer friendly console for their next release.
Goto has also noted that we won’t be seeing a “PS4″ release until 2012 at the earliest as it usually takes around two years for a console to move from the concept stage into production.
